Born in Taipei and educated across three countries, Dr. Lao began his academic journey in Vancouver before moving to the United States, where he earned a dual degree in biomedical engineering and computer science from Johns Hopkins University. He continued at Johns Hopkins for his Doctor of Medicine, laying the foundation for what would become a highly distinguished career. Dr. Lao completed six years of integrated plastic and reconstructive surgery residency training at the Medical College of Wisconsin, followed by a prestigious aesthetic surgery fellowship under Dr. Sherrell J. Aston in New York—one of the most sought-after training programs in the country. He further specialized with fellowships in reconstructive microsurgery at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan and aesthetic surgery at the Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital (MEETH)/NYU in New York.
Dr. Lao has held the position of attending physician at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taipei, a global center of excellence for reconstructive surgery, before returning to Manhattan to establish his own successful private practice.
Throughout his career, Dr. Lao has been recognized with numerous honors and has published extensively in leading medical journals on topics ranging from aesthetic and reconstructive surgery to oral cancer. He is also passionate about medical education, frequently delivering lectures and presentations to share his insights and foster innovation in the field.
Dr. Lao is a member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He is also a founding member of the Asian Society for Breast Plastic Reconstructive Surgery.
