For over 20 years, the NCDS has organized the Give Kids A Smile initiative, one of the largest dental outreach events in the United States. This remarkable event provides free dental care to as many as 1,500 children in a single day. During the event, children receive dental exams, fluoride varnish treatments, oral hygiene education, and nutritional counseling. In addition, many children benefit from dental sealants to help prevent cavities. The event is not only a chance to improve children’s oral health but also an opportunity to introduce them to the world of dentistry in a positive and welcoming environment.
The Cradle of Aviation Museum becomes a hub of activity during Give Kids A Smile, where children can enjoy a full day of educational and fun experiences. Along with their dental care, they have the chance to explore the museum and the Firefighter’s Museum. For many children, this is their first dental visit, and the event ensures that it leaves a lasting, positive impression.
As part of the event, each child receives a backpack filled with essential dental care items, such as toothbrushes, floss, and oral hygiene pamphlets, along with additional goodies like coloring books, hats, scarves, and gloves. For children with urgent dental needs, Dr. Granger and his team work with local hospitals and private dental offices to ensure they receive the follow-up care they need.
The Give Kids A Smile event wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of over 300 volunteers, including dentists, dental staff, high school students, and members of the community.
