He earned his medical degree in Johannesburg, South Africa, and began his training with two and a half years in General Surgery at North Shore University Hospital, Cornell University Medical College. Dr. Setzen then completed a five-year residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY.
Board-certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (ABO-HNS), Dr. Setzen is a Fellow of several prestigious organizations, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS), the American College of Surgeons, the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy, the American Rhinologic Society, and the American Head and Neck Society. Beyond patient care, Dr. Setzen is deeply committed to education and research. He serves as an Associate Clinical Professor of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at Albany Medical Center and is the Chief of ENT Surgery at St. Peter’s Hospital (St. Peter’s Health Partners).
Dr. Setzen has held significant leadership roles, including Past President of the AAO-HNS, Past Chair of its Board of Governors, and Secretary-Treasurer of the AAO-HNS. Dr. Setzen has also served on the Board of Directors of the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) – CT Division and as Past President of IAC CT. Additionally, he is a former President of the New York State Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and is actively involved in various not-for-profit organizations.
