Daniel Howard, MD, FAAOS, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with advanced fellowship training in sports medicine. Known for providing individualized and compassionate care, he treats patients at Somers Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine Group.
Dr. Howard began his academic journey at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology while competing on the cross-country and track and field teams. He then received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Following medical school, Dr. Howard completed his orthopedic surgery residency at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City, where he served as the Administrative Chief Resident during his final year. To further specialize, Dr. Howard pursued a sports medicine fellowship at the renowned Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles, where he was part of the medical staff for major professional teams, including the Los Angeles Rams, Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks, Los Angeles Galaxy, and Los Angeles Sparks, as well as various junior colleges and high schools.
Dr. Howard has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and conducted research on the health of professional athletes in the NFL, MLB, MLS, and NWSL. His research interests include injury prevention in youth and adolescent athletes, safe return-to-sport protocols after injury, improving patient outcomes, and refining surgical techniques.
Dr. Howard treats a broad range of orthopedic and sports-related conditions affecting the knee, shoulder, elbow, and hip. Dr. Howard offers specialized treatments, including minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery, robotic-assisted knee replacement, and cutting-edge therapies. He also serves as the Team Physician for Mahopac High School and Assistant Team Physician for Pace University, ensuring athletes receive expert care both on and off the field.
