Dr. Paul El Azoury’s approach to medicine is deeply rooted in a belief formed during his childhood in Lebanon: that every life is worth protecting. His first 15 years were shaped by civil war, an experience that exposed him to both the devastation of conflict and the importance of understanding our shared humanity. When the war ended, he witnessed people from communities that had once been divided by fear come together, an experience that profoundly influenced his decision to pursue medicine.

Today, Dr. El Azoury is a nephrologist and healthcare leader who has spent more than 15 years caring for patients throughout the North Country. He served as Vice President of Medical Staff at the University of Vermont and Associate Chief Medical Officer at UVM Health Network’s Alice Hyde Medical Center. He also served as Associate Chief Medical Officer and Director of Nephrology at The University of Vermont Health Network–Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital.

Dr. El Azoury earned his medical degree from Kursk State Medical University and completed his internal medicine training at Yale School of Medicine, followed by fellowship training in nephrology at the University of Vermont. He has also pursued specialized training in kidney ultrasound through Emory University School of Medicine.

Beyond his clinical work, Dr. El Azoury is passionate about improving healthcare and supporting the medical professionals and communities he serves. His perspective is shaped not only by his extensive medical training, but by the life experiences that taught him the value of compassion, acceptance and human connection.

Away from medicine, Dr. El Azoury and his family enjoy making their home in the Adirondacks. He and his wife spend time hiking and skiing with their children and visiting Montreal to experience its art, language, culture and sports. He is also an avid photographer and finds particular peace behind his camera in the mountains, an environment that reminds him of the mountain landscapes of his childhood in Lebanon.
