Dr. Judith H. Tanenbaum
Judith H. Tanenbaum, MD, is a distinguished psychiatrist who has maintained a thriving private practice for more than three decades. She also serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College and New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where she plays a vital role in medical education and mentorship.
Dr. Tanenbaum’s enduring impact on the field is recognized through the establishment of the Betts-Tanenbaum Chair in Clinical Psychiatry. This endowed position will support post-residency psychiatrists in their advanced clinical training for generations to come. Beyond her teaching responsibilities, Dr. Tanenbaum is deeply involved in student development at Cornell. She oversees a student-led psychiatric clinic, participates in residency admissions, mentors medical students, and helps prepare future psychiatrists through mock residency interviews.
Dr. Tanenbaum’s academic journey began with the Postbaccalaureate Premedical Program at Columbia University’s School of General Studies, which she completed in 1983. She went on to earn her MD from Cornell University Medical College in 1988 and completed her psychiatry residency at the Payne Whitney Clinic of New York-Presbyterian Hospital in 1992. A proud alumna and active supporter of Columbia, Dr. Tanenbaum serves on the General Studies Board of Visitors and previously contributed to the school’s Leadership Volunteer Committee. Together with her husband, William Tanenbaum, she established the Phyllis M. Kippur Memorial Scholarship, dedicated to supporting students in Columbia’s Postbac Premed Program.
